Topography

Try to sign the following sentence:

“When you see the Shell station, hang a right.  You’ll pass Harley Davidson, and your destination will be on the right, three buildings down.”

Where would you start? How would you sign these directions or directions to your home or workplace? What if you visited Gallaudet University and someone gave you directions around the campus.  Would you understand them?  Are you able to visualize what you are seeing signed.  Dr. Byron Bridges discusses tactics used in American Sign Language to give directions, which will assist in the development of your topography skills.
